Accounts of what it was like to command a tank in combat Contains maps, official documents, newspaper clippings, and orders of battle

Volume Two follows Michael Wittmann and his unit into Normandy to defend against the Allied invasion. A week after D-Day, Wittmann achieved his greatest success. On June 13, 1944, near Villers Bocage, the panzer ace and his crew attacked a British armored unit, single-handedly destroying more than a dozen tanks and preventing an enemy breakthrough. The exploit made Wittmann a national hero in Germany and a legend in the annals of war. He was killed two months later while attempting to repulse an Allied assault, but the book continues beyond his death until the Leibstandarte's surrender.

This book was so full of typos, it made it hard to read. Even the name of the main person was miss-spelled throughout the book. It is a good story, just find it in a different book. I have several books from this publisher and his was the worst (both volumes one and two).

Vol.2 do cover in detail the Normandy Offensive and follow up the activity until the end of the war, with losses, interviews, details of structure command, lots of pictures, etc. A fantastic Historical Research and document. A must for all tank researchers and fans.

Dreams in Blue: "The Real Police"

I enjoyed this book. I found it well written and informative as to many of the specifics concerning tank battles, how they were won or lost and a view from a perspective other than allied. This book makes it all too evident how Hitler's insistence on micro managing the war caused the loss of so many battles and the death of millions of his own people and soldiers.
I can speak from some, not much, experience in the use of tanks. Fortunately for me the time I spent was in peace time, but I did gain a lot of respect for those that crewed tanks during war. Whether you were in a Tiger or Patton you soon found the vulnerabilities from different weapon systems. Death or injury in these steel monsters could be especially horrible.
If you want to know what it was like to face off with a dangerous adversary from the confines of these military machines then read this book.

GR8 stuff of a panzer commander who was a born strategist. unfortunate ending but that's what war & luck is all about. Sad that so many good soldiers were lost because of the fantasies of a lunatic leader who literally hypnotized his citizens into a lost cause by operation Barbarosa even when Napolean had lost the same battle a century ago.

I have many books realted to the heavy tanks of the German forces in WWII, these two volumes are very detailed on the heavy panzer companies of the Leibstandarte and all the actions they participated in. I am very happy with both volumes. The work and research invloved in these is tremendous.
