The book is outdated. Two restaurants that we were interested in are no longer in existence. Also, the author did not mention that The Farm Kitchen and the rest of the place closes down for the summer, except for the Quiessence Restaurant located there. Also, dirt paths lead to the restaurant, which should be noted because if you wear nice shoes you will end up with dirt in them. I don't trust using the book for guidance.

The only dining out guide available in large Phoenix bookstore. Buy local -- I guess -- as the author lives in Scottsdale.

Lists a lot of good places in a range of prices. With full-page review for each restaurant, you get a real sense of each restaurant. ("Mesquite-grilled quail" lets me both the foodie sophistication of a menu and its ambience and price.)

There are NO ratings in the book, so if you're looking the top five restaurants in town, they may be here, but they aren't singled out. The book does have multiple indexes, however.

Four stars from me because it's not comprehensive. Still worthwhile.

I see the Zagat Arizona restaurant guide was published in 1989! So this must be the current best choice.
